(2017) Behind the Video there is a school, and behind the school is the home of Susan Monjilo. Many of the boys know her and call her Mother, Mama Africa, though they are not her sons. Her real son, Eli, would bring them there. Over time he told the boys to call him Baba Yao – father.
Baba Yao grew older but more young boys would come – as young as eight, nine, ten. They looked up to him and he became responsible for them. He took them to church, he would pray with them before sleeping, he would let them wash at his home, and when the time came he would take them to be circumcised.
In Paradise there is safety, friendship, independence, love. There is also MC – the escape. They buy it from Addydy, Baba Yao’s sister, who buys it from a hardware store. They douse it on a cloth and sniff. Baba Yao sniffs too.
